In colonial Colombia in 1618, Maria and her daughter Anaya live under the harsh yoke of slavery in a cocoa field. The women wait for the men to return to rescue them. They return, but not to free them; the palenque is burned to the ground and they need seeds to replant it. After this, Maria weaves escape routes, like a map in her daughter's braids, and flees but is soon captured and killed in front of the others. After several tragedies, the enslaved women braid their hair, hide food in their turbans and become the true seeds of freedom.
